Humbuckers

Gibsons pickup designer, Seth Lover, came up with the Humbucker pickup in the late fifties. It's a genius design that really eliminates all the annoying hum which is the drawback of all single coil pickups. Of course, there's a loss in high frequencies, but that has become a part of their personality - a sound many times described as fat, juicy, beefy, meaty and more.

In time the Humbucker pickup design has emerged into an ocean of varieties and spin-offs - there's no end to it and why should there be? The Humbucker is such a fascinating design, every time you hook up a newly wired one and witness that odd sense of hearing no hum at all - remarkable!
